On Monday, September 17, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced that the operating licenses for Indian Point Units 2 and 3 have been renewed for the remainder of their operating cycle.
New York AREA Chairman Jerry Kremer released the following statement:
“We applaud today’s decision by the NRC to relicense Indian Point, ensuring that New Yorkers can continue to benefit from the 2,000 megawatts of power it produces until its planned closure by 2021. This allows the state to make progress on its future power portfolio with confidence about this plant’s continued safe operations. Today’s decision by the NRC would not be possible without the dedicated work of the men and women who operate the plant safely every day and who have maintained a stellar safety record year after year.”
