Last week, the State of New York denied a water permit to the Northeast Supply Enhancement Project, leaving the future of vital natural gas expansions in New York City and Long Island in flux.
This is the latest in a series of denials against pipeline permits throughout the state. Earlier this year, National Grid warned that it could place a moratorium on future New York City and Long Island projects unless necessary pipeline infrastructure is developed.
Fortunately, Williams intends to reapply for the permit soon, but this denial is a harsh reminder of New York’s strident opposition to natural gas development and a warning for our future energy grid.
