A New York State Senator has proposed a bill that would ultimately put a permanent ban on hydrofracking. This follows the now five year ban that Gov. Andrew Cuomo put in place.
Hydrofracking is the process by which natural gas is extracted from the earth using a combination of water, sand and chemicals to push the gas out under high pressure.
“Hydrofracking is banned through state regulations administered by the Department of Environmental Conservation. But if the Legislator were to pass the bill, which would then have to be signed by the governor, the ban could have more permanence” Metzger believes.
